Second Opportunity Alternative Program Attendance Policy

As a student of the River Forest/Lake Station Second Opportunity Alternative Program, you are allowed 7 unexcused absences. This attendance policy follows what is stated in the River Forest High School student handbook, and due to the location of this program, alternative students must adhere to it. As a word to the wise, attendance is vital for success in the alternative program, and is something that greatly impacts the amount of work that is completed on a daily basis. The alternative program runs on a 3 hour schedule, so any day missed can contribute to the lack of progress. Consequences will be issued upon the 8th unexcused absence, and if a student reaches that point, be placed on a 3 strike contract. Students have 2 days to produce an excuse to Mr. Bruemmer or Mrs. Sparks that will excuse a day of missed school. Excused absences are the following:

    ü  Doctor’s appointment accompanied by a note

    ü  College visit

    ü  Court appearance

ü  Funeral of an immediate family member

ü  Any other school approved activity

Once placed on a contract for violating the River Forest/Lake Station Second Opportunity Alternative Program’s attendance policy, the following consequence will occur:

    ü  9th unexcused absence- 1 day of in-school suspension

ü  10th unexcused absence- 1 day of out of school suspension

ü  11th unexcused absence- expulsion process begins

By signing this document, I_______________________, fully understand and agree with the River Forest Second Opportunity Alternative Program’s attendance policy. I will follow and comply with attendance policy and am aware of the consequences I may receive if it is violated.
