    River Forest Junior High
    Special Education Teacher (NISEC)
Grand Valley State Colleges in Michigan with a degree in Social Work and an Elementary Education degree.
Then received my Special Education degree in Emotional Disability, Specific Learning Disablilitiy, and Mild Cognitive Disability.
My teaching career started in elementary education on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. My teaching experiences continued and I began teaching students within Special Education.  I am starting my 19th year at River Forest Junior High School. I enjoy teaching English and seeing my students' faces when they learn something new which gives them the feeling of satisfaction within themselves. Bringing creativity into the classroom is something that I try to do within my lessons. A student overheard that I could retire and asked why I was still teaching. I responded, "I love teaching and  I feel that I haven't reached all of my goals as a teacher." I want to continue to encourage my students to push themselves so they can see what they are truly capable of. I also want to continue my tradition of watching my students walk across the stage when they graduate high school.
Starting my 11 year of sponsor for the RFJH Student Council has allowed me to work and have fun with many students who are creative, helpful, fun, hard-working, and leaders. We have accomplished many activities: fund-raisers to help our community members, school dances, Family Fun Nights, Food Baskets, Angel Tree, assemblies to recognize students' behaviors and accomplishments, and a show of appreciation to teachers and staff for their commitment to students and education.
I have been  married to my husband, Steve, for 33 years who I met while teaching in South Dakota. We have two boys and one daughter and have lived in Crown Point for the past 22 years. I enjoy when we get together to celebrate birthdays, holidays, and reminisce of sports events, camping, and vacations. My other passions are gardening, traveling with my three Travelin'Gals, reading, and photography.
