Hello and welcome to our web page. My name is Andrew Wielgus and I am the Principal at Henry S. Evans Elementary School, “The Home of the Panthers”. This is my 22nd year here in the River Forest Community School Corporation and my 26th year in education. I became the Principal here at Evans in 2010. Previously, I was the RFJH/HS Principal from 2005-2010, the RFE Principal from 1997-2005, and an Assistant Principal at RFHS from 1995-1997.
Here is some background information on Evans School: Evans is fully accredited with Advance Ed through 2016. Evans has received three A’s and two B’s from the State of Indiana as a School A-F Letter Grade. Also, Evans has a state recognized outdoor classroom with the “Evans Courtyard”. Evans Elementary is a K-5 building that is located on the West Side of Lake Station, Indiana. Evans provides a Schoolwide Title 1 Program, an EL Title III Program, and has a High Ability Grant targeted to the school. The school has an Innovations in Learning Counselor, a Nurse Assistant, a Safety Patrol, Spell Bowl, Math Bowl, Student Council, Art Fair, Choir Concerts, Cross Country, Softball, Basketball, Track, and a PTO. Academically, Evans has access to the Harmony Program [which includes a Parent portal to check grades], School Connects to contact Parents, Accelerated Reader, Study Island, and NWEA for benchmark testing. Our staff is outstanding and has completed Curriculum Mapping for all grade levels and our school had been selected as a state recognized - RTI Lighthouse School. We have added new Chrome Books, Kindles, Projectors for every classroom, and have free backpacks for every child on our Back to School Night.
Thanks again for visiting our webpage. I would encourage you to go to the other schools pages if you have children in Grades 6-12 or for corporation info on our main RFCSC - corporation page. Also, school data is available at the Indiana Department of Education website and we have a community newsletter that is available quarterly. The newsletter is mailed out to your residence and it is called the RIVER FOREST EDUCATOR.
I look forward to working to working with you and with all of the stakeholders in the community here at Evans and “Go Panthers”. And remember our Motto ”If You Believe It You Can Achieve It”.
Sincerely, Andrew Wielgus, EDS. Principal Henry S. Evans Elementary School
