My name is Miss Galanos.  I teach sixth grade language arts, with a focus on writing and grammar. This is my fourth year at River Forest Middle School. I obtained my teaching degree at Purdue University Calumet. I also have an endorsement in special education. I have a twin sister who teaches first grade at Meister Elementary. I enjoy art, politics, sports, reading, and food.

While I appreciate reading and writing on my own, it is even more rewarding to share my love for language and writing with my wonderful students. Their eagerness, willingness to learn, and talent make teaching a joy. What brings me happiness is seeing the joy education brings to children.

It is my goal to provide all students with a challenging, yet fun, experience in my classroom. My view on teaching is simple. I believe that ALL students regardless of race, ethnicity, socio-economic status, religious background, and/or any other classification are deserving of an equal education. This approach includes an education that will allow all students to fully discover themselves, their strengths and weaknesses, and benefit from necessary real world/real life instruction. Furthermore, this type of approach exposes students to cultures and experiences that they otherwise would not have the opportunity to encounter.

It is my desire as an educator to help students meet their fullest potential. I feel that each student is a unique person who needs a safe, loving, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and learn. It is my wish to help students meet their fullest potential by providing an environment that is secure, supports risk-taking, and invites a sharing of ideas.

I have extremely high expectations of all my students, and for that I will not apologize. I am asking for your help to maintain those expectations by checking with your son/daughter periodically to make sure that his/her work is being done and behavior is up to par. I am available to help students individually before school, during my prep periods, and after school. If you would like me to notify you of test dates and/or update you on your son/daughter’s progress, please do not hesitate to contact me.

    Kind regards,
    Miss Galanos
