    Dear Parents or Guardians,

Welcome back! I hope you had a wonderful vacation and enjoyed the break. My name is Mrs. Miller and I would like to take the time to welcome you and your child to my classroom. I know most of us have already met but I wanted to give you a chance to get to know me. I am married and I have one daughter that just turned 16. She is a beautiful young lady that challenges me to keep moving forward each and every day. I grew up in Michigan City, Indiana and graduated from Michigan City High School in 1999 with honors. I graduated from Purdue North Central in 2013 with a Certification to teach K-6 with a Reading Endorsement. Since then I have had the pleasure of working as a para professional with second grade and a year teaching kindergarten in a different area.

This year is a unique situation teaching two grade levels in one class.  I am very proud of my students, they have come together to make things work and benefit each other.  So far this year they have shown me what it means to be great leaders, role models and friends. They have come face to face with challenges and they have conquered them. They have shown encouragement to others that struggle and together built a wonderful classroom community, where everyone strives to do their best.

I am looking forward to a very successful year and I know you are too. I have high expectations for your children and I will do all that I can to help them achieve these expectations. I believe children need to be empowered and challenged to their ability level. This will happen through hard work, dedication and communication between home and school. I will be sending the students home with a newsletter letting you know what is going on in the classroom and informing you of upcoming projects, field trips or other opportunities to get involved in. In my classroom we will be working together on projects and collaborating with one another. This year I am very excited to be able to use Google Classroom with my students. With the changing in times, I want to prepare my students for the future and ensure their success as a 21st century learner. If you are not familiar with Google Classroom, it is a platform for collaborative learning that in based online. My students’ complete assignments electronically to me. Going forward in the year student will begin communicating on discussion boards and using the Google classroom format to power their learning. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me and I will do my best to get back to you within 24 hours if not sooner. I hope you are just as excited as I am to start the second half of our school year.
