I am 1986 graduate of River Forest High School. I received my undergraduate degree from Ball State University in 1991 and my Masters Degree from Indiana State University in 1997. I completed my Educational Specialist degree in 2009 (again from ISU) which allowed me to re-apply for my license and convert it to a Superintendent’s license.
I worked as an elementary principal for over 18 years (2.6 years at Meister Elementary School, 10 at Johnston Elementary School in Highland, and 6 at now closed Riley Elementary in Hammond) and I was an assistant principal at Gavit Middle/High School for one year dating back to 1997. Prior to that, I taught art and computer art for six years at Gavit.
During my 25-year career in education, I have been named “Teacher of the Year” (1996), “Principal of the Year” (2006), I have been awarded the distinction of a Life-Member of the Indiana PTA, and I have been a finalist for Indiana PTA “Principal of the Year” (2003). In both 2002 and 2004, my school was chosen to represent the State of Indiana for the national “Outstanding PTA Unit” award.
I have presented to my peers, teachers, and parents at the state level and local level and my writing has been published in Ball State’s The Writing Program (1987). My artwork has appeared on the cover of Contemporary Education (1998), and is on display in Indiana State University’s permanent collection. I also was asked to design an update for River Forest High School’s athletics logo in 1995 and it remains as one of the school’s athletic logos.
I have been involved with the River Forest Community School Corporation as a student, parent, or community member since 1973 when I began in Kindergarten. Along the way I have had the honor of giving the keynote address at Career Day way back in 1998 and the commencement address for the graduating class of 2008. I am overwhelmed with joy to come home and continue to serve in a school system that I love so dearly; My heart and efforts are focused on the River Forest Community School Corporation in creating a nurturing, safe, and challenging K-12 school environment. I am married (Amy) and the proud father of two boys (John and Geddy) and a girl (Lindee).
